Hi everyone! I hope you had a great week!
I sent the best email of my life today. No email will ever top this email that I sent. Seriously, you’re going to have to trust me that this was the best #$%*!@ email ever sent from one person to another. And you’re going to have to trust me because I’m not going to say what it was about.
But some supremely awesome drawing was done this week. By me!
I was walking at the park on Monday, and some groundskeeping guys showed up to take out a huuuuge (5 feet in diameter) stump that was in the ground. I should have been wearing my Foreshadowing Alert Headband because when I sat down on the other side of the park and got out my drawing stuff, THE TREE GUYS WERE CUTTING DOWN A HUGE PINE TREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it was so cool! I’ve never sat and watched a tree get cut down before. The image above was toward the beginning, and there were a bunch of cool in-between stages afterward… that I didn’t draw. So you’ll just have to imagine them.
After that, I said, “I’m gonna draw something cool happening every day this week!”
And then Tuesday came, and this happened:
Yep, squid dudes, shaggy hyena dogs, giant noses, humanicorns, giraffe patterns, all the classic halecore suspects are here.
But then on Wednesday, I was at Torrance Beach and saw a SAND TRACTOR!!!! I don’t know what they’re actually called but you can see it below on the right.
Wow. Going to the beach is great. I don’t really have any more to say about that. Waves, I’m gonna actually draw you one of these days!
Yesterday, I went to two cool places: Fingerprints Record Store (left) and 4th Horseman (right), which is a metal-themed bar.
On Monday, I really took my time, almost an hour, to do the drawing. At my level, I really need to go slow to draw what’s in front of me to the best of my ability, but I prefer to be more energetic and spontaneous. You might notice that my line quality on Wednesday (above) and Thursday (below) is a little shakier than usual as I’m being pulled between my conflicting desires to go fast and slow.
I probably won’t get a chance to add today’s drawing before Shabbat begins, so I’ll probably put it in next week’s newsletter.
Wanderhome!
We played Wanderhome again last night, which was great! Here’s the updated map.
Wanderhome is a pastoral fantasy TTRPG where you go on a hospitality-filled adventure. If that sentence doesn’t mean anything to you… sorry… I’m running out of room so I’ll have to explain it sometime later… … …
The more time I spend with it, the more I love, and want to improve upon, its systems. We are playing to have fun, but my original impetus to get a Wanderhome group together was for research to inform my own design knowledge. Here’s a look at the notes I’ve taken as I’m thinking about procedural setting generation character traits, axes of play, and more.
Please don’t notice that I misspelled “intriguing.”
The Keeping of the House
Super huge thank you to Joell, my one paid subscriber! I haven’t actually pressed the “let people give you money” button yet, but I’ll probably set that up this week. I was waiting until I felt like I had a good thing to give people, and currently the winner is scanning my drawings and sending them as postcards. But let me know if you have any ideas!
Okay I think that’s it for this week. Tune in next time to see more drawings (definitely), hear about THE CHOSEN (maybe), and read Cartoodle and THE LIQUEFOLD MANIFESTO (probably not, but maybe… okay yeah probably not. but maybe!). See you next time!
